Isabella Adams, MSW, LCSW

Hello, I'm Isabella 'Isy' Adams (she/her/hers)! I work as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker through the state of Virginia, offering counseling and psychotherapy services. I see a wide range of populations including adults, adolescents, and families. Having training in trauma-focused and mindfulness based therapeutic modalities, I enjoy providing my clients with a range of therapeutic interventions to assist in managing symptoms of mental diagnoses as well as day-to-day stressors.

As a therapist with a background in sociology, I recognize that every issue a person faces is often born from or influenced by many factors - some within our control and some not. This aids me in applying an intersectional lens to better understand how differing aspects of my clients' identities, experiences, and social statuses impact their quality of life. My style of therapy is often talk-based, though I draw from many different evidence-based therapeutic modalities including CBT, ACT, EMDR, SFT, DBT, AcuDetox, Psychodynamic, Feminist, Ecotherapy, Constructionist, Multicultural, and Polyvagal therapies - a lot of words and acronyms to say that I utilize many techniques when collaborating with clients to work on the issues they seek help with!

I welcome and want to learn from all people regardless of sexuality, gender, gender identity, political views, ability, religion, culture, body type, race, age, or ethnicity.

Education and Experience

After graduating a year early with an Advanced Studies Diploma from Holston High School, I went on to attend Emory and Henry University for four years where I pursued four majors in Sociology, Religion, History, and Geography. Whilst at Emory and Henry, I took part in several elective/social honors programs including the E&H Honors Society, Student Government Association (Elected Senator; Vice President), Gamma Theta Upsilon Geography Honors Society (President), Emory Climate Collaborative, Calliopean Literary Society (re-founding member), Emory United Methodist Church Choir (Choir Librarian), and several projects operated by the Office for Diversity and Inclusion. In May 2021, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Emory and Henry as the first student to graduate from there with four majors. I was also awarded with the Senior Service Award, Academic Excellence in Religion Award, Academic Excellence in Geography Award , and Outstanding Senior in Sociology Award. That fall, I began attending my Master in Social Work program (clinical concentration) through East Tennessee State University. During my tenure in this program I was chosen to join the Phi Alpha Honor Society for Social Work and take part in conducting a study on the instillation of self-care practices with MSW students entitled 'Early Birds Avoid Burnout: Instilling Self-Care Practices in Social Work Students.'

After graduation, I began pursuing clinical licensure in the state of Virginia through my work as an Outpatient Therapist (License Eligible) at Highlands Community Services (HCS). At HCS I worked directly with many mental/behavioral health professionals of differing backgrounds to provide clinical care for a variety of clients experiencing a vast range of DSM-recognized diagnoses. In March 2025, I left HCS to pursue further medically-informed clinical practice as a Behavioral Healthcare Provider in an integrated-health clinic serving communities across the SWVA region - Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems (SVCHS). My work at both HCS and SVCHS resulted in over 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience which allowed me to become eligible to take and pass the ASWB Clinical Exam and become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

If you have any further questions regarding my experiences or educational background, please contact me.
